Jacob Layne was born and raised in Beckley, West Virginia where he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 2005. Following high school, Jacob attended West Virginia University as a promise scholar and graduated cum laude with a B.A. Degree in Political Science and a minor in Philosophy. While an undergraduate he was inducted into the Pi Sigma Alpha political science honorary and the Mortar Board senior honorary. He also served as a congressional intern in the Washington D.C. office of Congressman Nick J. Rahall, II and as a member of the Student Government Association Judicial Board.
Upon his graduation he attended the West Virginia University College of Law. At the College of Law Jacob was a member of Moot Court, was selected as a student in the inaugural class of the Land Use and Sustainable Development Law Clinic, and interned for the Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney where he gained practical courtroom experience.
After his graduation from law school in 2012, Jacob served as law clerk to the Honorable Robert A. Irons, Circuit Judge of the Thirty-First Judicial Circuit. He also served as the district ten representative on the Young Lawyer Executive Committee of the West Virginia State Bar. Jacob became a Member of the firm on Dec. 1, 2018.
