Gary E. Pullin was born September 7, 1947 in Charleston, West Virginia. He grew up on a small farm in Kanawha County and graduated from St. Albans High School. Following graduation from high school he enrolled at West Virginia State College. He transferred to West Virginia University at the end of his sophomore year and graduated from there in 1970 with a B.S. in Agriculture. Following graduation he entered the United States Marine Corps as an Officer Candidate. He was commissioned as Second Lieutenant and served on active duty as an Artillery Officer until his release from active duty in 1974. He then transferred to the reserve component of the United States Marines where he served as Platoon Commander, Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of Alpha Company, 4th Combat Engineers, our local Marine Reserve Unit. He has also served as a Staff Judge Advocate with tours of duty in Washington, D.C., Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Marine Corps Base, Quantico, Virginia, and Fleet Marine Forces, Pacific. In 2001, after completing thirty years of service as a Marine Officer, Colonel Pullin transferred to the Retired Reserve.
In 1975 Gary was accepted to law school and graduated from WVU’s College of Law in 1978. He served as a law clerk to the Honorable Charles H. Haden II, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and then entered private practice. In 1982 he was appointed as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and served in that capacity with the U.S. Attorney’s office in Huntington and Charleston until 1989. In 1989 he left the U.S. Attorney’s Office to start a law firm and today he is the senior partner in the firm of Pullin, Fowler & Flanagan, a law firm of over 45 lawyers which specializes in insurance defense litigation and representing businesses and individuals in litigation related matters.
Gary has served as the President of the Cross Lanes Lion Club and as President of the Cross Lanes Community Association. He is a past member of the Rotary, and a past president of the homeowners association where he lives. Gary attends Elizabeth Memorial United Methodist Church. He is the father of two children, Allison and Ryan. He and his children are active in Church and civic affairs.
